Medcraft Highlights Role of Securitization, SFIG’s Co-Sponsored White Paper on Blockchain

In a recent speech, Greg Medcraft, Chairman of the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC), emphasized the importance of securitization and capital markets as an alternate source of finance.

Medcraft stated, "(W)e should not forget the impact of predictable returns for investors in securitized products and the constructive ways in which those income streams can be used."

The Chairman went on to highlight SFIG's co-sponsored white paper, prepared by Deloitte, "Applying Blockchain in securitization: opportunities for reinvention", stating that it "is quite a compelling look into the way the sector may evolve." Medcraft also addressed blockchain and SFIG's co-sponsored white paper during the Global ABS conference this week.

Earlier this year, SFIG announced a partnership with the Chamber of Digital Commerce focused on advancing the use of blockchain technology in securitization markets. Last year, SFIG launched a Blockchain Task Force, which is working to identify and enable opportunities within structured finance where blockchain may enhance capital markets transparency, investor confidence, and sustainable liquidity driven by education, advocacy, ecosystem development, and applications and use cases.
