GSE Repurchases Sink to Record Low

According to a piece in Inside the GSEs, both Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac saw declines in the volume of defective loans each had to repurchase in the fourth quarter of 2017. The two repurchased or made indemnifications for $973.5 million of single-family loans. This represented the lowest total since the two GSEs started filing quarterly repurchase disclosures with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), which represented an 11.6% drop from the 2016 total, and an 11.4% drop from the third to fourth quarter of last year.
