Ginnie Mae Releases Roadmap for 2020

On Wednesday, June 20, Ginnie Mae published Ginnie Mae 2020: Roadmap for Sustaining Low-cost Home Ownership. The document outlines plans to update and modernize Ginnie Mae in three areas: Modernizing the MBS Program and Platform, Enhancing Counterparty Risk Management, and Strong Focus on Innovation. The report notes that Ginnie Mae will look to securitize digital mortgages as early as 2019, though issuers would not be able to commingle traditional paper mortgages into such pools. Additionally, the report notes that Ginnie Mae will explore credit risk transfer deals similar to what Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have undertaken.
