Ginnie Mae MBS Production Drops to Three-Year Low
Using Ginnie Mae’s loan level MBS disclosure data, an article published in the latest edition of Inside Mortgage Finance detailed a sharp curtailment of Ginnie Mae MBS production in the first quarter of 2018. Issuance fell to $92.58 billion during the first three months of 2018, marking its deepest trough since February 2015. This figure represented a 14.8 percent reduction quarter over quarter, with production falling nearly 7 percent from February to March alone, when only $28.21 billion in Ginnie Mae single-family securities were issued.
