Ginnie Mae Announces Clarifications to MSR Acknowledgment Agreements

A National Mortgage News article notes that after a significant review period, Ginnie Mae recently finalized a clarification of their mortgage servicing rights (MSR) acknowledgement agreements in response to feedback from issuers and warehouse lenders who provide MSR financing.

The article states that Ginnie Mae President Ted Tozer views this clarification was more about offering reassurances than making a major policy shift. "A lot of it was misunderstandings," Tozer said. "Our intent was not as clear as it could have been in the document."

National Mortgage News notes that Ginnie hopes that this clarification will increase interest in its MSRs, which will help address recent liquidity concerns in the market for its MSRs. According to Ginnie Mae senior advisor Kathleen Gibbons, mortgage industry representatives were "pleased with a few ways in which we've been able to make the acknowledgement agreement clearer and eliminate liability that was duplicative or unnecessary."
