FHFA Details Sale of over 72,000 NPLs in Third Enterprise Non-Performing Loan Sales Report

On June 1st, the FHFA released its Third Enterprise NPL Sales Report, which lists all sales of non-performing loans (NPLs) from Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae (the GSEs) to the private-sector through the end of 2016.

According to a DSNews article, the GSEs sold 72,502 NPLs with $14.16 billion of total unpaid principal balance with a mean delinquency time of 3.4 years, as of 2016 year end. Freddie Mac accounted for 32,448 of the loans at a cost of $6.6 billion and Fannie Mae, 40,054 of the loans at a cost of $7.5 billion.

One notable takeaway from the report was that 47 percent of total NPLs sold came from New York, New Jersey, and Florida, which also accounted for 47 percent of the GSEs' loans that were over one year delinquent by year end 2014.
