February 29, 2016 Alert - In Memory of Reggie Imamura

Dear industry participants and conference attendees:

It is with an extremely heavy heart that I must inform you of the passing of Reggie Imamura, after fighting illness.

Reggie was instrumental in the foundation of SFIG and served as its first Chair. He was the driving force behind the success of the organization, the building of its principles and the establishment of an organization that is dedicated to educating and representing its members equally and ensuring all voices are heard. His courage and hard work enabled the initial decisions to form both SFIG and this conference, and whether you knew Reggie or not, I can guarantee you owe him a debt of gratitude for the way he championed this industry on your behalf.

Beyond his efforts on behalf of the industry, simply put he was a man of the most upstanding character. He would always go the extra mile, always look for the positive in a situation and never wavered in his commitment to do the right thing both on a personal and an industry level.

He was our Champion and we would like to ask that we honor his memory by holding a “one minute of silence” on Tuesday morning March 1st, at 10:25am PST (1:25pm EST). At that time, myself and the Board of Directors of SFIG would ask that exhibit halls, panel sessions, meeting rooms etc. all “shut down” for a one-minute period which may be spent in silent contemplation or prayer for Reggie’s spirit and for the family and friends that are left behind.

In addition, for those who are struggling to cope and who would like to express their condolences we would invite you to visit www.sfindustry.org/reggie, where you may pay tribute with a message in your own words. You can also add your comment by stopping at the SFIG booth.

And finally, while this is news of the absolute worst kind, one thing I am sure of is that Reggie would not have wanted this to spoil this week’s conference. Let us please try to rise above adversity, challenge ourselves to make ABS Vegas 2016 a conference that is truly representative of the spirit under which SFIG was built and honor the man in a way truly befitting the incredible individual that he was.

Thank you.
