Thanks to tremendous support from SFIG Members and the structured finance industry, the Residential Mortgage Finance Symposium in New York City this past week was an overwhelming success. With 125 housing finance leaders speaking on over 30 panels, the 1,050 registered attendees were presented with a marquee lineup and industry-focused discussions centered on the most pressing issues facing the mortgage market.

Structured Finance Coalition Officially Launched at SFIG Vegas

A delegation consisting of several SFIG members and staff attended the 2016 Annual Conference of the China Securitization Forum (“CSF”) in Beijing from April 7-April 9, 2016. The delegation played a significant role at the conference, with SFIG represented on a wide variety of panels. Thursday, October 8th, SFIG held its 2015 Fall Symposium at the New York City offices of PricewaterhouseCoopers. SFIG Senior Director of ABS Policy Sairah Burki opened the symposium with a discussion of recent developments related to high quality securitizations (“HQS”), including the final Basel Committee on Banking Supervision and International Organization of Securities Commissions framework and the adoption of related legislation by the European Commission as part of its Capital Markets Union Action Plan.

Women in Securitization Week Roundtables

Over the course of WiS week, the women of structured finance gathered across North America to discuss real life challenges and workable solutions to various hurdles professional women encounter. Each session reached registrant capacity, with over 200 industry women signing up for regional roundtables.

Attendance at the events affirmed the WiS perspective that our industry is eager to create a forum where women can have a meaningful dialogue on key issues and solutions. SFIG members and non-members alike expressed excitement that SFIG and the industry are committed to discussing the role of women in the workplace and sincerely appreciated bringing women together to candidly discuss issues that will contribute to the ongoing success of individual professionals and our industry.

The event welcomed nearly 4,000 industry participants, which included over 1,600 investors and issuers, a new record for the ABS East franchise. Featuring keynote addresses from Patrick Pinschmidt (U.S. Department of Treasury) and Joseph Smith (The National Mortgage Settlement), the ABS East program delved into the core issues facing the securitization industry. The program also incorporated a highly successful and well-attended symposium dedicated to marketplace lending.

On April 15th SFIG held its first Canadian Symposium in Toronto. Dirk Rueter, Partner at McCarthy Tétrault LLP welcomed participants to Toronto and the symposium, which included:

  • A presentation by SFIG's Executive Director Richard Johns regarding SFIG advocacy and developments
  • A discussion with Winnie Sanjoto, Ontario Securities Commission, regarding the Proposed Amendments to National Instrument 45-106 Prospectus and Registration Exemptions relating to the Proposed Securitized Products Amendments. Dean Masse, partner at McCarthy Tétrault presented Ms. Sanjoto with questions on the securitization industry’s perception of the proposed amendments.
  • A panel discussion on current regulatory issues in the Canadian Structured Finance Market, moderated by McCarthy Tétrault Counsel, Candace Pallone.

  • In his presentation, Richard Johns provided an overview of SFIG’s activities over the past year. Highlighting various advocacy efforts that impact members in the United States and Canada, Mr. John’s applauded the involvement of SFIG members in shaping the advocacy agenda and contributing to national and global level discussions on regulatory and market issues in structured finance..

    SFIG's inaugural conference, hosted in conjunction with the Information Management Network (IMN), was a resounding success with more than 5,200 registrants, making it the largest structured finance conference in the world.

    The three- and- a- half day program, developed by leaders who represent the most active firms in ABS, featured coverage of the most pressing issues facing the marketplace. SFIG and IMN worked together to ensure all stakeholders interests are fairly and equally represented at the event, including investors, issuers, financial intermediaries, regulators, law firms, accounting firms, technology firms, rating agencies, servicers and trustees.
